Walking to School

Walking helps to keep you physically fit, but did you know it is also a great way to shape up your mental fitness as well?

Thousands of parents and students in Merseyside walk to school and feel the benefits. Walking (and other exercise) leads to the release of the body's natural happy hormones, endorphins. Everyone who walks, no matter what your pace, should notice an improvement in mood. This week there is some wonderful autumn sunshine still about so, as you walk to school you can enjoy your local community at the same time.

In Merseyside we are celebrating walking to school by joining forces with the Decade of Health and Wellbeing to help you discover the great ways that walking to school can help your physical and mental health. There are five ways to wellbeing and walking can help you fit them into your daily routine.

Building these five ways to wellbeing into our daily lives is proven to help improve wellbeing. Creating an understanding of how to do this among pupils and families is vital to creating a Merseyside which is more equal, well and green in 2020.
