Goods

Everything in the shops, offices, homes and gardens has been transported at some stage. Making sure that goods can be delivered efficiently is important for the economy and local business. Merseyside is home to the Port of Liverpool, Garston Dock, Liverpool John Lennon Airport and the Manchester Ship Canal all of which are key facilities for the movement of goods.

The Port of Liverpool is a key gateway to North America, Ireland, the far east and China. It has a rail freight terminal which currently runs 15 trains per day carrying coal, scrap metal and paper to the north west and beyond. There is also a barge running along the Manchester Ship Canal from the port.

Making sure that goods can deliver in and around our city, towns and local centres in a legal and safe way is important and this is why dedicated loading and unloading bays continue to be put in where necessary. In some locations there are dimension and weight restrictions to prevent large and heavy vehicles using particular streets. Suitable routes for HGV's through our city towns and local centres are signed in some cases. All these measures help to make sure that goods can be delivered to their destination safely using the most suitable roads.
