As a Cycle Demonstration Town, Southport and Ainsdale received extra funding to encourage more visitors and residents to enjoy cycling round the town. A voluntary organisation that campaigns for safe roads for cyclists, better cycling facilities and for the promotion of cycling as a natural part of city life on Merseyside. The CTC is a national not-for-profit organisation that is funded through its 60,000 members and donations, which campaigns nationally for better rights and conditions for cyclists. It also provides a wide range of activities and services designed to enhance the riding opportunities for all cyclists, and to make it easier for newcomers to begin cycling.

The CTC Two Mills Group Sunday rides programme includes routes beyond Chester into the lanes of Cheshire, Wrexham and occasionally the hillier parts of North Wales as well as gentler stretches on the Wirral.
