These rides are for people who have been referred by their GP or other health professional, to take part in gentle exercise. Pedal Away in Knowsley offers the opportunity to keep active, have fun and socialise with others. The rides are aimed at adults who want to start cycling although children and younger people are welcome with an adult. Organised leisure rides also take place in Sefton. Led by trained leaders, all rides start at Dunes Leisure Centre in Southport.
There are some set routes ideal for independent cycling that you can do whenever you want. Rideabout and Rideabout 2 show routes that start at railway stations in the area which is great news as it's free to take your bike on trains in Merseyside.
The Loop Line is a 10 mile path, formerly a railway line, between Halewood to Aintree. There are many access points to it and it can get you from A to B or you can just enjoy cycling by the varied habitats along the way.
If you fancy cycling further afield and seeing more of the northwest then the Trans Pennine Trail will take you from Southport to Hornsea on the North East coast. Or just on the edge of Wirral, check out the CTC full day, led rides.
Cycles for hire are available from the Liverpool Bicycle Co-operative, for a simple day out in the country, an extended cycling holiday, or a day out in Liverpool City Centre.
Liverpool's Cycle Speke project offers Cycling Sunday bike rides, taking place on the first Sunday of every month. All rides start at 2pm from Lifestyles Austin Rawlinson, Parklands, Speke. The Cycle Speke project is supported by the European Regional Development Fund.

People in St Helens are being encouraged to get back on their bikes this year, thanks to a new scheme offering all residents free bike maintenance sessions and the opportunity to take part in a series of guided bike rides.
