Car Share

With the costs of driving continuing to rise, car sharing is increasingly being seen as a realistic way of keeping commuting costs down.  It's a very simple concept - two or more people making similar journeys travel together in the same car. It means fewer cars on the road so cuts down on congestion and saves you money!  It can be especially helpful if you work shifts or outside the hours of public transport.

A great deal of car sharing is arranged informally e.g. through colleagues at work who live relatively closely.  Your workplace may also have it's own car share scheme which could match you up with a colleague with a similar postcode. Many organisations will also have a 'guaranteed ride home' scheme, which guarantees a free taxi ride home in the event of e.g. a family emergency or unexpected overtime.

There is also the Merseyside Car Share Scheme, MerseyCarShare.org - anyone can register on this Merseyside specific database that automatically finds matches for you, whether you're offering or seeking a lift for either a regular or one-off journey.  You can go here to register your details for free.  You will then be sent a list of potential matches, and you then decide who to contact.

Whichever way way you choose to car share, one guarantee is that it will help save you money.
