Local Transport Plan 2 (2006-2011)

The second Local Transport Plan (LTP) ran from April 2006 till March 2011 and was a long term strategy and £230m delivery programme of transport investment and service improvements. It aimed to give Merseyside a safer, sustainable, efficient and integrated transport network, accessible to all.

Our vision for transport on Merseyside was:

'A fully integrated safe transport network for Merseyside which supports economic and social regeneration and ensures good access for all, and which is operated to the highest standards to protect the environment and ensure quality of life'.

Our long term strategy was to support the continuing economic development of Merseyside by managing for an increase in the demand to travel and to ensure the efficient movement of people and goods.

Our five year plan aims were:

The economic, social and environmental regeneration of Merseyside is continuing and we need a transport system that supports that regeneration. The increased prosperity will mean increased demand for travel, and for car ownership.
