Strategy
The third Merseyside Local Transport Plan was launched in April 2011, with an accompanying Merseyside Freight Strategy. We intend to expand on the successes of the LTP1 and LTP2 strategies to progress the Freight Strategy for LTP3. Its main goals may be summarised as follows:
- Support SuperPort development
- Develop ITS in support of the efficient movement of freight
- Develop the freight components of the Air Quality and Low Emission Strategies
- Support the development of consolidation centres
- Support the process of implementing the Port Access Study recommendations
- Ensure the Strategic Freight Network is adequately maintained
- Develop rail, water or road infrastructure improvements, as necessary
A workprogramme is presently under development for discussion at the next meeting of the FQP.
