Local Transport Plan 2006-2011

LTP

LTP

The first Local Transport Plan for Merseyside was produced by the partnership of Merseytravel and the local councils of Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens, and Wirral in 2000 to cover the period 2000/2001 - 2005/2006.

The second LTP covering 2006 - 2011 has now been submitted to the Department for Transport and is available to download below.

The public has had an opportunity to have their say in the preparation of the LTP. For more information visit the LTP Consultation Page.

The economic, social and environmental regeneration of Merseyside is continuing and we need a transport system that supports that regeneration. The increased prosperity will mean increased demand for travel, and for car ownership.

Major developments and changes over the next 10 years include:

  • Long term effect of the Objective One programme in areas like the City Centre, Speke, Kirkby and Bromborough.
  •  The transformation of the City Centre with the Paradise Project, Kings Dock development, and the impact of Capital of Culture in 2008.
  •  Increasing passenger and freight movement through the docks and Liverpool John Lennon Airport.
  • Changes to where people live with the boom in city centre living, and the New Heartlands housing programme in areas of Liverpool, Wirral and Sefton.
  • More travel to leisure, health and education.
  • Increased job opportunities outside Merseyside, in areas like Warrington, Chester and Deeside.

We need to ensure that we meet the increased demand for travel without harming economic growth, with more congestion, or the environment, with more pollution.
