Walking in town

You can rely on your feet to get you where you want to be. Walking for short trips is a very wise move - healthy, ready to go when you are and free.

We've all heard that taking 10,000 steps a day is one of the best ways to stay fit and healthy.

But how can you find time to fit those steps in?

The easy way is to fit them into your routine.

  • Walk with your children on the way to school.
  • Walk to work, or to the bus or train.
  • Walk for short journeys, like popping to the local shop.

If you live in Merseyside and you would like a pedometer to see how far you walk each day email info@letstravelwise.org

Below in the downloads box you will see lots of publications giving ideas of fantastic places to walk here in Merseyside. The Walkabout Guides include walks that begin at Merseyrail stations. The Calorie Maps give a guide as to how many calories you will burn and how many steps will be taken on walks around each different area. Both publications include things of interest that you will see as you are walking. Visit the events page to find out about local walks you can join.

The Merseyside Local Transport Plan partners are working hard to make walking around Merseyside easy and enjoyable. This includes improvements to public spaces and pavements as well as signposts and better provision for disabled people. You can find out more about our plans in the Draft Pedestrian Strategy .
